Reading this book that was published almost 100 years ago (1932) was shocking. Many things author Aldous Huxley predicted have come true. And just as in his book, it seems that most of the people in this country are asleep at the wheel of their minds and are allowing others with ulterior motives to lead them to a government chosen pasture.
Aldous Huxley was the teacher of George Orwell, who wrote 1984. Brave New World and 1984 are dystopian novels and are a reminder of where our country and world could be headed. The lessons found within them should be heeded so we can hopefully avert these negative futures and unfavorable outcomes. Unfortunately, some predictions these authors made have already come true, and this is disturbing.
In Brave New World, soma was the drug of choice. If you feel down, take some soma. If you have anxiety, depression, are angry or sad, are feeling uneasy or unhappy, take some soma and it will alleviate your pain and misery. Hasn’t it come to this in our modern world? It is not just one drug, but a multitude of drugs. If you are depressed, you can go to your doctor, and he can prescribe what you want. Anxiety, depression, drugs to keep you awake, drugs to make you sleep, drugs that help you focus, drugs that calm you down. Name the symptom and likely there is a drug for it. What happened to dealing with life’s problems on our own?
In the book, the government used mind control techniques and soma to maintain social stability, to keep everyone in line and content doing their jobs, and brainwashing techniques from birth to adulthood to control what the mind thinks about. It was a lot like programming people the way you want them to be so the state could continue to run, and the citizens to keep consuming goods so that businesses would stay profitable. Again, he hit the nail on the head here, as we are a consumer driven economy that is induced to buy products, often products that we do not even need, because we saw them advertised in commercials. We used to be such a practical country, a practical people, what happened to us? When did ‘shop till you drop’ become a mantra?
In his book, to maintain the social fabric and avoid widespread chaos, power needed to be centralized and government control increased. This led to a reduction in people’s liberties and freedoms, but it was necessary to maintain order and stability. To prevent this nightmare from its continuing unfoldment in our modern world, and in Aldous Huxley’s own words: “Only a large-scale popular movement towards decentralization and self-help can arrest the present tendency toward statism.”
This movement towards statism and control by government of our lives has only increased since he wrote these words, as the power and rights of individual states guaranteed by the 10th Amendment of the Constitution have been trampled underfoot, and the Constitution rarely followed today. The Government uses its federal money to maintain control over the states, and this is our current condition. Many federal government programs are unconstitutional and should be eliminated, and the states should handle more of their own affairs. Not only is this the intent of the law (Constitution) as it was written, but if followed this would naturally reduce our national debt.
The covid vaccine mandates were another example of government control over the population. Big Pharma create an experimental vaccine that was not proven to be safe or effective and then the government forced the population to take this vaccine. (Any vaccine created and used in less than a year has not had enough time to prove it is safe and effective – long term studies are required – that means greater than one year.) Many people would have lost their jobs if they would not have taken the vaccine, so it was basically a mandate. This mandate to take an experiment vaccine was also unconstitutional and a crime against humanity (Nuremberg Code). But the government measures did not end there, there were inducements, constant fear mongering on the news shows and advertisements on billboards to ‘do the right thing for your country and family – take the vaccine.’ Those who spoke out against it were vilified, blacklisted, censored, and they lost their positions. For the first time in history, the government used all of its propaganda and legal might against its citizens: the internet, all forms of media, and news shows; Big Pharma, insurance companies, doctors, and hospitals; local, state, and federal law enforcement; and the results were staggering. The people lined up to get their vaccine shots and boosters, often waiting in a line of cars or a line of people for hours on end, just to receive an experimental vaccine which was not proven to be safe or prevent any disease. It was a great success by Big Brother, our Big Government, to show that these measures of population control were effective. But the real question is: ‘Why did they do this?’
How will our government justify gaining even more power over the population in the future? The answer is permanent crisis. Aldous Huxley wrote: “…But liberty, as we all know, cannot flourish in a country that is permanently on a war footing, or even a near-war footing. Permanent crisis justifies permanent control of everybody and everything by the agencies of the central government.”
But is there any real indication of any crisis or crises lately that would serve the government in this purpose? Recently, we had the covid crisis. Covid was a real disease, yes, but it was more like a bad flu. To put this in perspective, the Spanish flu of 1918 killed 50 million. Covid-19 was minor in comparison. The government blew this out of proportion to reality. Then we had the Russia-Ukraine War. Now we have the US-Iran war. All we need now for Ultimate Control of the population is a market crash with widespread unemployment, pain, and suffering of the population for the government to swoop in and save us, while at the same time forcing us to abide by some new laws, dictates, and restrictions of our liberties.
Aldous Huxley’s book Brave New World is a classic that will endure the test of time. Hopefully, his words will be heeded so that our government of the people, by the people, and for the people will survive and thrive well beyond our children’s lives. We need to be ever vigilant over the erosion of our rights, and of our own government and its representatives who do not follow the rule of law or obey the Constitution. We need to get back to the basics to ensure our freedom and the freedom of our progeny for the generations to come.
